 Last week, wind ripped through the course with many branches and trees down. The most spectacular was still visible on the 23rd today. A large tree right at the end of the path near the men's tee has been totally uprooted.

Crundall Claims 2012 Championship

Nick Crundall, playing off a handicap of plus 1, is the 2012 Pambula Merimbula Golf Club Champion. Over the 72 hole Stroke event, Nick was a clear winner by 10 shots from Paul Welsford who was the runner-up in A Grade and also took out the Veteran Championship. In his acceptance speech, Nick spoke glowingly of the preparation of the golf course by Superintendent, Pat Wilson. On the condition of the course, Nick stated that it was equivalent to any Metro course in Australia.

The minor championships were a closer tussle with Michael Mutch taking out B Grade by 2 shots from Bruce Gaunson. C Grade required a 3 hole playoff between Alan Llewellyn and Noel McArdle who both finished on 391 after 72 holes. Alan won the playoff for the championship. The playoff was a family affair. Alan’s sons holidaying here from San Diego, USA, and Sydney caddied for him in the playoff; while Noel’s wife, Maureen, caddied for the former Captain. Pambula Beach’s Nick Ross was declared the Junior Champion.

The Handicap Event was very close in A and B Grades with Peter McMullen nudging out Simon Potter for A Grade and Ray Coutts-Smith narrowly ahead of  Eugene Shannon. As predicted Pambula 12 year old, Lachlan Considine, romped in as the C Grade Handicap winner with another former Captain, Lawrie Fox, runner-up.

Our own Jan Sheppard is the 2012 Queen of Clubs. Jan has been playing in the annual event since it's inception and it's the first time she has been in the final placings.

2012 King of Clubs is Chris Evers from Beverley Park.

The number of players was up this year - 339 players from 77 clubs. Scores were lower than usual with very heavy conditions experienced at all 4 courses.

Noel Matthew Retirement Cocktail Party

What a fantastic night the Club had last Friday night to farewell Noel Matthew the Club's Golf Pro for 37 years. Noel and his wife, Lynne, retired at the end of April handing over the reigns to Glenn Warne who has been with the Club for a while.

The Club had a farewell event for Noel and Lynne last Friday, and over two hunderd members turned up to farewell them. It was great to hear some of the stories about Noel over the years both from here at the Club and away on the many golfing trips he has taken with members.

We wish Noel and Lynne all the best for their retirement, but know that we will continue to see them in the future.

Steve Cann appointed to Board

The appointment of our new Treasurer has created a vacancy for a director. To fill that vacancy the Board has appointed Steve Cann.

Steve and his partner Nikki Barrett have been members of the club for 12 months since moving from Bright in northern Victoria, where Steve served on the golf club’s committee in a number of positions.

A regular player on the Australian Senior Amateur Tour, Steve was also a member of the Australian Amateur “B” Team.

An accomplished snow skier, Steve has represented Australia and has coached in the sport both here and overseas.

Since joining PMGC Steve has been assisting the Club by working behind the Match area.

I would like to take to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Board and Members, to welcome Steve onto the Board.

As with the Treasurer’s appointment Steve’s appointment as a director will be subject to ratification, by the members, at this year’s AGM.

Club Professional

 The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Glenn Warne as PMGC’s new Club Professional.

Glenn will take over the role from Noel Matthew when he retires at the end of April after almost 37 years as our Club Professional.

Joining the Club in 1984, Glenn went on to complete his traineeship in 1990 and has been working as a Professional, assisting Noel, at the Club since that time.

The entire Warne family have a close association with the Club - Mum and Dad, Nancy and John, wife Catriona and the boys Harrison 15, Lincoln 13 and Rory 10 and Glenn’s brother Darren, having all been members for many years.

For the golfer, Glenn’s current handicap is 1 with his best score around our course of 62, nine under the card.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all members to wish him well in his new role.

On behalf of the Board I have much pleasure in announcing the appointment of Michelle Vernon as our Clubs’ new General Manager.

Michelle comes to us with an extensive background and qualifications in sports management and is currently a director of Golf Management Australia – NSW Division, an organization providing training and development for Golf Club Management across New South Wales.

Previously General Manager at Asquith Golf Club, Michelle’s experience also includes the GM’s role at Dunheved and Bexley Golf Clubs and prior to that Secretary Manager of Glenmore Country club. 

Some of Michelle’s many interests include, golf, hockey, cycling, walking, political and humanitarian issues, historic and classical literature, the piano and travel.

It is planned that Michelle will join us in the first week of March, please make her welcome.

From Wednesday,1st February, all online booking will open at 5pm. This is the same time as booking kiosks open in the clubhouse. Competition timesheets open on the on the evening prior to the event, one week earlier. For example, Bookings for Saturday 11 Feb, open at 5pm on Friday 3rd Feb, online or in the clubhouse. Please note that all bookings for Sunday also open on Fridays at 5pm one week prior. Keep an eye on Sundays, many of them are Medley events which allow any combination of women or men to play in the event.

We have added a new feature to our Competition Bookings page. You are now able to view your tee-off times, even if the timesheet has been downloaded prior to or during play.

1. Go to Competition Bookings
2. Log in using your GL number & password.
3. In the top right of the screen, once you are logged in, you will see a button "View Bookings" This will show your tee times for any events you are playing in.

This will be particularly useful for people who want to check on their playing times on the day or evening before an event when access to the timesheet is closed. Our thanks to several users who suggested this improvement.

• The page shows the current week. You can click on the link to show full details of the event.
• View the Calendar is a link towards the bottom where you can see the calendar month by month. You can scroll through monthly or you can select the month you want by simply clicking on the month at the top [eg January 2012]. A drop-down box appears enabling you to go straight to the month you require [eg October 2012]
• Export the Calendar allows you to download the whole calendar into a calendar package on your computer [eg Microsoft Outlook Calendar]
